A Special Thanks to A Few Special People

Thank you to all who have helped me in my Vadha Kempo journey

Thank you to all who have helped me in my Vadha Kempo journey

Thank You

In Vadha Kempo the title Sensei is given to those who achieve the rank of First Degree Black Belt and is used as a sign of respect when addressing someone of that rank or higher.  The title “Sensei” has become associated with the word “teacher” especially when used in martial arts circles.  However, in Japanese the word “Sensei” roughly translates to “One who comes before”…. Or “One who is born before,” although the meaning has nothing to do with biological age.  It simply means that the person you are referring to has gone ahead of you on the particular path you now follow.

It is with the sincerest gratitude and respect at this time that I would like to take a moment to thank my Senseis; those who have “Come before me” on my continued journey in Vadha Kempo.  I have been truly blessed to have each one of you as my teacher.

Sensei Bill Monks:  May you forever Rest in Peace Sensei.  You were my first instructor in Vadha Kempo and it was you who demonstrated to me what a powerful and unique system Vadha Kempo truly is.  It is the impression that you made on me as a young man that convinced me that Vadha Kempo was something I would always be a part of.  I cannot thank you enough for putting me on this path.

Grand Master Ken Pytluk:  To a true warrior and the epitome of what it means to be a martial artist.  Although we are now separated by a great distance, the lessons you taught me still guide me in my daily life.  When I’m faced with the challenges in my life I still hear your voice telling me to get up and never give up.  Your example has directly impacted any success I have achieved in all aspects of my life.  You truly lead by example.  I am proud to be your first black belt, and it is a bond that can never be broken. Thank you brother.

Grand Master Rich Perrella:   I could not be more pleased that you are part of our Dojo.  To see a 10th Degree Black Belt approach every class with the enthusiasm and humbleness of a student is truly inspiring.  It is your passion for learning that keeps me going on those days when I need motivation.  You have always believed in me and my teaching methods and that will never be forgotten.  Thank you for walking beside me now as my journey in Vadha Kempo continues, it is an honor.

Grand Master Gene Isola:  Over the decades I have known you, you have been my teacher, my mentor, and my friend.  You are the embodiment of what it means to be a true Sensei and Master.  My greatest hope is that one day I can have an impact on one of my students the way you have had and continue to have on my life.   There are no words that I could put in writing that would even begin to express my gratitude for what you have given me.  It is an honor to call you my Sensei, and a greater honor to call you my friend.  OOOSSS !

Professor & Grand Master John Salvaggio:  Although I was never one of your direct students, it would be remiss of me if I were not to show you the respect and appreciation that you deserve since it was you who directly taught my teachers.  What all practitioners of Vadha Kempo must remember is that without you there would BE NO Vadha Kempo.  You have created a system that is truly unique and amazing yet have always allowed room for the system to continue to grow and evolve.  I constantly remind my students that as powerful as Vadha Kempo is, it is at the same time fragile since there are not many who teach it.  I remind them that the future of our system lies with them, the next generation.  Among them lie the future Sensei’s and instructors of Vadha Kempo and it is my job to continue to teach and pass on the lessons taught to me by my instructors with the hope that the system continues after I am gone.  You are a true visionary and trail blazer in the world of martial arts.  I speak not only for myself but for all of my students when I say THANK YOU !!
